The race to build better, brighter and blazingly fast conversational AI is heating up the BigTech circuit. Silicon Valley’s investors can’t keep calm. OpenAI’s ChatGPT has potentially become the iPhone moment in the valley, with every other BigTech giving it a shot at. Microsoft’s investment in ChatGPT rang alarm to competitors like Google. Alphabet’s shareholder nudged the search engine giant to expedite work on the inhouse Lambda enabled conversational AI – Apprentice Bard. It might be unveiled to the general public sometime soon. But Quora ain’t waiting. Adam D’ Angelo, the CEO of the popular question-answer social platform, took to socials and unveiled ‘Poe,’ an AI that would rival the likes of ChatGPT. Angelo writes that Poe lets users ask questions and engage in back-and-forth conversations leveraged by several bots.
Today, we are opening up public access to a new AI product we have been building called Poe. Poe lets people ask questions, get instant answers, and have back-and-forth conversations with several AI-powered bots. (1/n) pic.twitter.com/G9LeO45sc8

Poe is built independent of Quora. It will initially be available only on iOS devices. Angelo writes that the purpose of Poe is to fill in the gaps of question-answer models like ChatGPT by making the bots more useful for other modalities as well. The Quora cofounder remarks that Poe’s API is being built in such a way as to make it easier for any AI developer to plug their models into Poe.

Adam encouraged iPhone and iPad users to test Poe. And some users posted screenshots of the results as well. Take a look.

A Caltech grad and a former Facebook CTO, Adam D’ Angelo, the 38 y/o American techpreneur co-founded Quora in 2009 along with Charlie Cheever, which became a rage in its initial days and is still moderately popular. Fun fact 1) Adam was an investor in Instagram before FB acquired it in 2012. Fun fact 2) Adam is on the board of directors of OpenAI.

Quora has over 300 million unique visitors annually (as of 2020). It is available in multiple languages, including Hindi. O boy! You gotta see the desi version of Quora! Like Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook, the entire platform has been accused of plagiarism and propelling propaganda by religious fundamentalist. It’s a cesspool of (insert any vice you detest) actually. Hope Poe isn’t trained on Quora’s algo. If so, it would be worse than ChatGPT. Thankfully, Adam on his Quora post on Poe mentions that it is not! For now. However, they might do it sooner. Well. . .that’s a bummer. But, Angelo reminds that
Poe is not perfect.”
Wait. . .what? It already leverages Quora’s answers? That’s scary.
testing testing..long time quora user, grt to see this! pic.twitter.com/HBbOdZlXqZ

Will Poe redeem Quora of its propaganda and plagiarism? Seems unlikely.
